Demat Account Statement Reading (CDSL/NSDL CAS Format)
Consolidated Account Statement (CAS)
The CAS is issued monthly/quarterly by CDSL or NSDL and shows all holdings in one statement:
Key Information to Extract
- Demat Account Number: Shows in statement header (8 digit/alphanumeric)
- Statement Date: Month/Quarter of statement
- ISIN Code: International Securities Identification Number (12 character)
- Security Name: Name of stock or security
- Quantity: Number of shares held
- Holdings Date: Date holdings updated
- Market Value: Current market value (calculated from price)
- Pledge Status: If shares pledged as collateral
Interpreting CAS Holdings
Example format:
ISIN: INE002A01018 (TCS)
Quantity: 100 shares
Market Value: ₹46,50,000 (@ ₹46,500 per share)

CAS Processing Steps
- Download latest CAS from DP (Depository Participant)
- HDFC Bank DP, ICICI Direct, Zerodha, etc.
- Extract each ISIN code
- Identify security name and quantity
- Match with buy prices for cost basis
- Calculate current market value
- Compute gain/loss per holding

Mutual Fund Statement Reading (CAMS/KFintech)
Statement Types
Mutual funds processed through two main registers:
- CAMS: HDFC Mutual Fund, IDFC Mutual Fund, SBI MF, Kotak MF, etc.
- KFintech: ICICI Prudential, Axis Mutual Fund, Franklin Templeton, etc.

SIP vs Lump Sum Tracking
Lump Sum Investments:
- Single large purchase
- Record: Date, Amount, NAV, Units purchased
- Track against purchase NAV
SIP (Systematic Investment Plan):
- Monthly/Quarterly investments
- Each investment at different NAV
- Track: Date, Amount, NAV, Units each month

XIRR (Extended Internal Rate of Return)
What is XIRR?
XIRR calculates annualized return accounting for:
- Amount invested
- Date of investment
- Timing of flows
- Current value or exit value
XIRR Calculation (Excel Formula)
Use =XIRR(values_range, dates_range) where:
- values_range: Include all cash flows as negative (investments) and positive (exits/current value)
- dates_range: Corresponding dates for each flow
